Getting There
Getting to Sicily
The closest airport to Zafferana is Catania (CTA), on the eastern coast of Sicily. You will be able to find direct flights to Catania from a number of European cities, including: London, Paris, Dublin, Milan, Barcelona, Zurich...
We recommend checking low-cost airlines such as EasyJet, Ryan Air, and Vueling, as they will have the most frequent flights. Please also run a search with flexible dates as some routes do not run every day.
You can also fly into Palermo; however be aware that the drive from Palermo to Zafferana takes approximately 4 hours.
Getting to the church (Santa maria della Provvidenza)
The church is located in Zafferana Etnea, a small town at the foot of Mt. Etna that is a 40-min drive away from Catania. The church is in the center of town, in between Via Roma and Via Giuseppe Garibaldi.
If you are driving your own vehicle to the ceremony, note that parking space can take a while to find - especially on a Saturday afternoon - so please allow plenty of time before the beginning of the ceremony! Zafferana is quite a small town and very walkable, so do not hesitate to park a few streets away from the church.
We will provide more information on transportation options as we get closer to the date.
Getting to the reception venue (monaci delle terre nere)
The reception venue is a 10-min drive away from the church. Please note that the venue is outside of town, and therefore can only be reached by car.
(Note: be on the lookout for the "Monaci delle Terre Nere" sign at the turn onto Via Monaci, it's not very easy to spot so make sure to slow down as you get closer!)
We will provide more information on transportation options as we get closer to the date.
FAQs
when should i plan on arriving in sicily?
It's up to you! However, we strongly recommend arriving at least 1 day ahead of time (Friday), in case of flight delays, traffic, etc on Saturday. The wedding events will all take place on Saturday.
How late will the reception go?
Fairly late - in fact, there is no end time, so the party could go on until morning!
What is the dress code?
Formal. Black tie is optional.
Can I bring my baby/children?
Babies and children are welcome to our wedding. That said, there are a few things to keep in mind:
If your child/children will be joining us for dinner, please make sure that you include them in your RSVP (and specify any dietary restrictions) so that we make sure to set up a spot for them. The menu served will be the same for adults and children alike.
If you need babysitting, please check with your hotel that they will be able to arrange this for you. Unfortunately we will not be able to set this up for our guests given the number of different hotels we would have to coordinate with!
The reception will go late into the night, so please make sure to plan ahead if you are bringing little ones.
What will the weather be like?
Very warm. In September temperatures on the Eastern coast of Sicily average high of 29C/84F and low of 18C/64F. However, please note that Zafferana is located at 575m/1900 ft. above sea level, so nights can get quite cool. Our reception will take place outside, so you might want to bring a sweater, jacket, or shawl in case it gets chilly.
Why are you getting married in Italy/Sicily?
Italy is our common ground; a place where both of us can feel equally at home even though Eva is French and Adam is American. It is a place with which we both have a history, and that we both feel strongly connected to - individually and as a couple.
Growing up, Eva often spent summer holidays in Italy with her family and friends. Italy is the country to which Eva has taken the most trips in her life (she has been over 20 times!), and of which she has very fond childhood memories.
Adam spent 2.5 years living in Florence in his late twenties/early thirties. He attended culinary school there, and tried as much as possible to blend in with locals - speaking Italian, making Italian friends, and avoiding all tourist or expat social circles.
Of all beautiful places in Italy to get married, we chose Monaci delle Terre Nere as we feel a strong connection to the resort's ethos, which centers around respect for nature, a passion for high-quality food and wine, and a focus on organic agriculture. We have been using Monaci's own-produced olive oil almost exclusively for the past few years.
